19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.
It is his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.
Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.
The player's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.
But the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.
The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.
He rescued four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
